Edward P. Ferris, P.E., P.S.--President/Project Manager

Mr. Ferris is the firm's Chief Highway Engineer. He has been a Highway Design Engineer since 1962 except for two years with the Corps of Engineers and has managed both complex and non-complex highway projects including bridge replacement projects. Some of the complex highway projects include FRA-670-6.50, FRA-670-4.91, ATH-33-12.95, FRA-104-6.50, GAL-35-3.79 and UNI-33-4.17. All the mentioned projects included interchanges except UNI-33-4.17. He has also been Chief Highway Engineer for a number of non-complex projects for ODOT, County and City projects. Some bridge replacements projects are HIG-138-24.36, GUE-209-5.73, BEL-9-19.76, HIG-28-2.81, COL-30-5.90, MEG-143-11.76 and MEG-143-11.29, rest area upgrading MUS-70-19.81WB, GUE-70-19.37 and upgrading five interchanges with tower lighting; FRA-270-35.16 and FRA-270-42.82. He has directed the development of all right-of-way plans for the above projects including supervising field surveys. He has also been the bridge review engineer for over 30 bridges and Chief Highway Engineer for safety upgrading projects PIK/ROS-23-13.40/0.00 and PIC/FRA-23-12.92/0.00. Mr. Ferris has been a Highway Design Engineer for more than 80 transportation projects throughout Ohio and has been Project Manager for all of the above referenced projects. Mr. Ferris is proficient in ODOT’s current plan development process after managing three recent projects designed under the current standard. Mr. Ferris is also registered as a Professional Engineer in West Virginia.

Mr. Ferris has been fortunate to be Village Engineer for New Albany since 1990. In that capacity, the firm has reviewed and approved all infrastructure engineering plans for residential development containing over 2400 lots, 51 miles of streets, 60 miles of storm sewers, 57 miles of waterlines, and 58 miles of sanitary sewers with a total construction cost of over $95 million. The firm has also provided engineering services including preparation of highway design plans including traffic signals for intersection improvements of Dublin-Granville Rd/US 62, Dublin-Granville Rd/High St, Market St/US 62, US 62/SR 605, reconstruction of Central College and Bevelhymer Rd. The firm has provided nearly all the construction inspection services during this period. Mr. Ferris attends nearly all Council, Planning Commission, and staff meetings at the Village. The firm has also reviewed, approved, and signed all subdivision plats during this period.

During the 70's and 80's, Mr. Ferris was a design engineer for 20.4 miles of water main projects, two 2-million-gallon elevated water tanks, and 14.2 miles of sewer separation and storm sewer projects. All projects were in the City of Columbus.

Mr. Ridgeway has over 40 years of professional experience and has served 31 of those years in Municipal Engineering with the City of Columbus. During the time he spent with the City of Columbus, Mr. Ridgeway held a number of leading positions including: Operations Engineer, Signal Engineer, Assistant Chief Traffic Engineer, City Engineer for four years and Director of Public Service for four years. Following his tenure with the City of Columbus, he joined the firm of Moody/Nolan where he was a Principal and the Manager of Traffic Engineering. His extensive experience has included directing and participating in the design of numerous traffic signal installations and closed loop signal systems. Mr. Ridgeway has completed numerous traffic impact studies for various proposed developments such as: shopping centers, housing developments and special site developments. Mr. Ridgeway specializes in traffic impact studies, signalized intersection and signal system design, thoroughfare plans, interchange modification studies, streetcape projects and traffic engineering consulting services. Mr. Ridgeway is also registered as a Professional Engineer in Florida.


Matthew E. Ferris, P.E., P.S.--Vice President/Highway Design Engineer/Surveyor

Mr. Ferris joined E.P. Ferris & Associates full-time in 1996 as a Design Engineer. He has assisted in the design of many highway and urban roadway projects throughout the state. He has developed plans for the Ohio Department of Transportation, City of Columbus, Franklin County, City of Upper Arlington, Village of New Albany and other local municipalities. Mr. Ferris is prequalified by ODOT to prepare right of way plans and perform level 1 and level 2 bridge inspections. Some of the projects Mr. Ferris has been involved with include: MEG-124-26.66, PIK-104-3.81, MUS-208-0.00. Mr. Ferris has assisted in the development of a number of utility relocation plans such as sanitary sewers, storm sewers and water lines. He has also been instrumental in the development of private site development plans such as subdivisions, business campuses and parking lots. Along with design responsibilities, Mr. Ferris performs all field survey co-ordinations. He has also developed a number of survey plats and performed many commercial ALTA, Boundary and Mortgage Surveys.


As of June 2007 our firm consists of 36 employees, 22 are graduate engineers or surveyors, 17 registered in the State of Ohio. Five of our engineers have dual licenses P.E. and P.S. One engineer is also registered in West Virginia, another in Florida. We have two retired Professors (PhD) from OSU Civil Engineering Department that provide consultation services. We have on our staff a former City Engineer/Public Service Director from the City of Columbus, a former County Engineer, and a former Ohio Department of Transportation Director.
