Engineering Plans Examiner
E.P. Ferris and Associates is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Engineering Plans Examiner to review engineering plans and technical documents for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. This role plays a critical part in supporting public agencies and private clients by ensuring projects are safe, compliant, and constructible.
The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to interpret complex engineering documents across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Review and evaluate engineering plans, calculations, and specifications for compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and standards
Examine plans related to civil, structural, transportation, drainage, grading, utilities, and related engineering disciplines (scope may vary by assignment)
Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, and code violations; prepare clear and concise correction comments and reports
Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and agency staff to resolve plan review comments
Provide technical guidance and interpretations of engineering codes and standards
Maintain accurate records of plan reviews, approvals, and revisions
Meet established turnaround times and service level agreements for plan review
Stay current with changes in engineering codes, standards, and best practices
Support permitting and entitlement processes as required by client agencies
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related engineering discipline
Minimum 4 years of experience in engineering plan review, design, or construction
Strong knowledge of engineering codes, standards, and regulations
Ability to read and interpret complex engineering plans, calculations, and technical reports
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
Proficiency with standard engineering and plan review software (e.g., Bluebeam, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, or similar)
Preferred Qualifications
Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification
Previous experience working with or for public agencies
Familiarity with electronic plan review systems
Experience in consulting or third-party plan review services
Survey Project Manager
The Survey Project Manager will be responsible for managing and producing a variety of land surveying projects from proposal through completion. This role involves technical oversight, project coordination, quality control, client communication, and oversight of both field and office personnel.
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as Project Manager for assigned surveying projects, including:
Boundary surveys
Topographic surveys
ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
Right-of-way plans
Subdivision Plats
Easements, legal descriptions, and exhibits
Prepare and manage project proposals, schedules, and budgets
Communicate directly with clients and coordinate with our engineering staff
Plan, assign, and direct work for field and office survey staff
Provide professional QA/QC review prior to project delivery
Mentor and develop survey staff on technical standards and quality expectations
Qualifications
Licensed Professional Surveyor (PS) in Ohio
Minimum 5+ years of land surveying experience
Strong knowledge of boundary, ALTA standards, and right-of-way surveying
Experience preparing and reviewing subdivision plats, legal descriptions, and survey exhibits
Proficiency with survey software (AutoCAD Civil 3D, Trimble Business Center)
Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
Construction Inspector
E.P. Ferris & Associates is looking to add qualified candidates to our team of Construction Inspection professionals. Our firm has been providing professional engineering and surveying services to the central Ohio market for more than 35 years. E.P. Ferris is looking for a survey crew chief who can perform land surveying activities utilizing Trimble Robotic total stations and Trimble GPS units. Work includes boundary, topo, ALTA/NSPS land title surveys, and construction layout. Applicants need to have a minimum of 3 years of experience in land surveying.
Civil Engineer / Designer / Project Manager

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or Traffic Engineering
Professional Engineer registration in Ohio, or ability to obtain
5-10 years of professional experience in traffic engineering study standards and practices, and familiarity with traffic control and traffic signal design plans
Ability to perform and oversee preparation the preparation of traffic studies, analysis, and proficiency with Highway Capacity Software and Synchro/Sim Traffic
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Willingness to learn new skills and work collaboratively in a team environment
ODOT prequalification preferred for Interchange Modification Studies and Safety Studies
