Roadway Design Engineer
We are seeking an experienced Roadway Transportation Engineer (PE) to join our Columbus, Ohio team. This role is ideal for a motivated professional with 5–10 years of experience who is looking to take on increased responsibility in the design and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects across Central Ohio.
You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects for ODOT, counties, the City of Columbus, and other local municipalities, including roadway widening, roundabouts, realignments, and new subdivision developments.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the design of roadway and transportation improvement projects, including:
Roadway widening and reconstruction
Roundabouts and intersection improvements
Roadway realignments
New subdivision roadway infrastructure
Perform and oversee drainage and stormwater design, including hydrologic and hydraulic analysis.
Coordinate with utility owners and design utility relocations
Design supporting infrastructure, including:
Waterline systems
Sanitary sewer systems
Highway lighting
Develop maintenance of traffic (MOT) and traffic control plans
Prepare quantity takeoffs and engineer’s cost estimates
Coordinate directly with clients including ODOT, City of Columbus, counties, and local agencies
Support project management tasks including scheduling, budgeting, and QA/QC
Mentor junior staff and contribute to team development
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
Professional Engineer (PE) license in Ohio
5–10 years of experience in roadway/transportation engineering
Experience with ODOT standards and City of Columbus standards preferred
Proficiency in:
AutoCAD Civil 3D and/or MicroStation OpenRoads Designer
Experience with drainage and hydraulic software (e.g., HEC-RAS, HydroCAD) is a plus
Solid understanding of:
Roadway geometrics
MOT/traffic control design
Utility coordination
Strong communication skills and ability to work with multidisciplinary teams
Preferred Experience

Roadway Project Manager
We are seeking an experienced Roadway Project Manager (PE) to join our Columbus, Ohio team. This position is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with 10+ years of roadway transportation engineering experience who is passionate about leading projects, developing client relationships, and mentoring engineering staff.
The Roadway Project Manager will oversee the planning, design, and delivery of transportation infrastructure projects for ODOT, counties, the City of Columbus, and local municipalities. This individual will serve as the primary client contact, manage project budgets and schedules, provide technical leadership, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Project Management
Manage roadway transportation projects from proposal through final construction plans.
Develop project scopes, schedules, budgets, and staffing plans.
Monitor project progress, budgets, and profitability.
Ensure projects are delivered on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with client expectations.
Lead project meetings and coordinate multidisciplinary project teams.

Provide technical oversight and direction for roadway improvement projects, including:

Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering.

Strong working knowledge of ODOT design standards and project development process.

Ferris and Associates is seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Engineering Plans Examiner to review engineering plans and technical documents for compliance with applicable codes, standards, and regulations. This role plays a critical part in supporting public agencies and private clients by ensuring projects are safe, compliant, and constructible.
The ideal candidate has strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to interpret complex engineering documents across multiple disciplines.
Key Responsibilities
Review and evaluate engineering plans, calculations, and specifications for compliance with applicable local, state, and federal codes, ordinances, and standards
Examine plans related to civil, structural, transportation, drainage, grading, utilities, and related engineering disciplines (scope may vary by assignment)
Identify deficiencies, inconsistencies, and code violations; prepare clear and concise correction comments and reports
Coordinate with engineers, architects, contractors, and agency staff to resolve plan review comments
Provide technical guidance and interpretations of engineering codes and standards
Maintain accurate records of plan reviews, approvals, and revisions
Meet established turnaround times and service level agreements for plan review
Stay current with changes in engineering codes, standards, and best practices

Required Qualifications

The Survey Project Manager will be responsible for managing and producing a variety of land surveying projects from proposal through completion. This role involves technical oversight, project coordination, quality control, client communication, and oversight of both field and office personnel.
Primary Responsibilities
Serve as Project Manager for assigned surveying projects, including:

Topographic surveys
ALTA/NSPS Land Title Surveys
